The Project is initiated by City Managers Association Karnataka (CMAK), funded by Cities Alliance and implemented by Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). The project was initiated on 3rd Dec 04 Hubli-Dharwad, a multi stakeholder meeting was held in association with the District Administration and Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation at Travel Inn, Sattur, Dharwad. The participants in the workshop included the Minister for Municipal Administration Mr. Morey, Mr. Nilaya Mitash, Director Municipal Administration, Mr. Gaurav Gupta, DC Dharwad, Mr. Manivannan, Commissioner HDMC, Mrs Alison Barrett, Regional Advisor, Cities Alliance, along with local leaders, Mayor, academicians from local and regional institutes, citizens, representatives of religious groups, NGOs, government departments, chamber of commerce, associations and professional groups etc.
The Cities Alliance has approved the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s proposal to prepare a city Development Strategy (CDS) document for the short term and long term strategic planning of the twin cities in association with stakeholders and citizens. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the City Managers’ Association Karnataka (CMAK) & Cities Alliance on behalf of Commissioner HDMC, dated: 21st December, 2005.
The CDS would help conceptualize methods to deal with present needs and future long term requirements. The overall aim of the initiative is to improve municipal management and governance, provide increased employment opportunities to its citizens and to work out inclusive strategies for all segments of society to contribute to equitable growth of the twin cities and the region.
