Welcome to the twin city of Hubli-Dharwad!
In the year 1907, when the then Government of India, planned to shift their capital from Calcutta to a new location, Dharwad was the second consideration after Delhi! Situated on the eastern slope of the Western Ghats, Dharwad is blessed with salubrious climate and intellectual citizens. The voice for rejuvenation of Kannada language and a separate statehood from the erstwhile Bombay presidency emanated from here!
Today, Dharwad is an educational city, with the Karnataka University and host of professional colleges. Hubli is situated 20 km south-east of Dharwad, forming a continuous urban agglomeration. Hubli is an agro trade centre, mainly trading cotton. Currently the city is inviting IT investments, and participates in the prestigious Bangalore IT.com.
The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is the second biggest corporation in the state, next only to Bangalore. The HDMC is on the path of change, a marked deviation from its past three decades of existence, instilling citizen friendliness into the services the corporation offers. HDMC realizes the growing importance ‘time’ has in the lives of people. Infact, success is becoming how much more you pack in a short time!
Corporation responds swiftly to citizens. There is a 24 hr helpline available for all essential and emergency services. Within 30 minutes of your call, the concerned official of the corporation will be responding to you. Permits and license procedure are being simplified. The administrative reforms, key to the efficiency of any local body, are on the track.
The government and its agency the Karnataka Urban infrastructure and Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), have been actively supporting the Corporation in all its initiatives. The currently running ‘Nirmala Nagara’ (clean city) project and the coming North Karnataka urban infrastructure development project (NKUIDP), are bound to give an impetus to the corporation and the development of the twin city, and poised to change the face of the city.
Sustainable change requires involvement of the stake holders and transparency. HDMC is pioneering the public-private participation model of ‘agenda groups’ wherein the local specialized talent is involved in day-to-day administration. Transparency is the key word in HDMC. This website is an initiative in that direction. It provides current information regarding key issues like finance, status of developmental works taken up etc. In future this website will act as the portal for everything that concerns the citizens of Hubli-Dharwad.
The journey of thousand miles starts with a small step. HDMC is in the path of being a model corporation. I believe that the reason-d-dat of our existence, the citizen of the twin city, will inspire us all through this tough and challenging journey.
