Hubli-Dharwad have now become one of the Commercial, Industrial and educational centre. It has present population of about 12 lakhs and covers an area of 202.28 Sq.Kms out of which constructed area is approximately 72.78 Sq.kms including 45 villages and large number of extensions spread in all the directions.

Railway Board to initiate measures to shift the railway recruitment Board (RRB) to Hubli from Bangalore to give preference to kannadigas in railway recruitment. Introduction of this unit will create 2000 to 3000 employment opportunities.

In order to reduce the intensity of traffic inside the city, the city by-pass National Highway No 4 is built, which is diverted from Hubli at Gabbur and Dharwad near Belur.

The harvest festival is celebrated on 14th / 15th of January & sweet "Yel/u Bel/a" is exchanged wishing each other to be sweet in relation.

Holy, festival of colours, is celebrated for five days, in the month of March. People sprinkle various colours & greet each other. Procession of "Rat; & Kamanna" is arranged on the last day and "Kamanna" is burnt as an indication of "Kama-dahan".

Shivaratri is celebrated in the month of February /March by keeping awake whole night as an offering to the God Shiva.

Ugadi is celebrated in the month of March or April as new year day. In this festival a mixture of Jaggery and neem leaves are dined . as a symbol of joys and sorrows interwoven in life and to accept equally.

Good Friday & Easter are celebrated in the month of April as crusification and Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ.

Ramzan (is a fasting month during which after sunset only the food is taken. Prayer is held in the night. This is celebrated to wash away all the ill things. Id-UI-Fitre is the last day of Ramzan

Ganesh Festival is celebrated in the month of August/September, Shri Ganesh Idols are installed for a period of 10 or 11 days in homes & also in public places at more than 200 places thorough-out Hubli & Dharwad. The pendals are installed & streets are attractively decorated and near by vi lIagers visit to enjoy the festival. On last day the Ganesh Idols are taken out on the procession and dissolved in water bodies.

Dashera is celebrated in September/ October & install Idol of Shri Amba Bhavani and worship for 10 days. Equipments, implements, vehicles, ete. which have brought prosperity are worshipped on Ayudha Pooja day and on Vijaya Dashami, "Banni leaves" are exchanged with each other with greetings

Deepavali, the festival of lights, is celebrated in the month of October or November. Poojas are held at homes,offices and industries and relatives & friends are invited for Pooja.

Rakhi (Raksha Bandhan) is celebrated by tying Rakhi as a binding relation for the protection of sisters by every brother.

Id - Milad is celebrated as birth day of prophet Mohammed & comes on 14th day of Moulad. Durgas are visited and procession is held.

Moharrum is a mourning festival for 10 days, in remembrance of those who sacrificed for Islam.

Bakrid (Id-UI-Zuha): This comes in the month of Bakrid. On the 10th day, Namaz is offered in the morning.

Christmas is celebrated on 25th of December in remembrance of Birthday of Jesus Christ.
